Neuromuscular Movement Re-education

Dr. Milton Trager was a brilliant genius who successfully work for decades before the neurosciences discovered neuroplasticity. Trager® is a sensorimotor movement re-education approach to improve functional abilities and is supported by the current neuroscience research about the brain’s plasticity. It is unique from any other bodywork. The continuum of many movements during a session is vital to stimulate the brain to build new neural pathways. The process is called neurogenesis and is one reason why Trager is so effective especially with clients with neurological issues such as Acquired Brain Injuries, Stroke, Parkinson’s disease and neurodevelopmental challenges. A sensorimotor approach involves the process of receiving sensory messages (sensory input) and producing a response (motor output).

DELAWARE HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES

June 23, 2015
To: Whom It Concerns
RE: Letter of Recommendation for Paul Hyman

I first met Paul Hyman in 2002 when he participated in the U.S. State of Delaware’s Summer Institute on Substance Abuse and Mental Health. This is a regional workforce development event that lasts five-days and four evenings and is attended by over 1,000 participants. Workshops and other events are designed to be experiential and cater to the adult professional learners who require continuing education in order to maintain their license or certificate. The Summer Institute typically offers 30 – 50 workshops on evidenced based and promising practices as well as standard topics required by multiple disciplines such as ‘ethics’. Additionally, we offer ‘state of the art’ topics and ‘wellness’ topics that may be less well known or researched but are considered ‘cutting edge’. The workshops that Paul offered were in this latter category at the time of his instruction.

The year 2002 was the first time in more than 39 years of Institutes that someone from outside of the United States was invited to teach. Paul’s credentials and expertise were affirmed through reference checks in the therapeutic communities within Canada and in California. Paul’s overwhelming success at the first Summer Institute in 2002 led to additional invitations for him to teach. Participants from many different therapeutic venues, including schools, residential treatment providers, and outpatient providers requested the information that Mr. Hyman taught with such enthusiasm. He has added meaningful change to the skill set of the healthcare professionals he has trained and who have made use of his tools, tips, and techniques. The feedback from participants was outstanding.

As a faculty member, Paul is dependable, arrives extremely well-prepared, stays until the last student has departed AND goes out of his way to meet with participant students in person or via e-mail when the student has additional questions. Paul is energetic and has the stamina to teach all day, offer an evening workshop, and be back in the classroom the next day just as fresh as he was the day before. He is passionate about his work, provides many examples for application, and is able to engage large groups of participants representing diverse disciplines.

It is with high regard that I send this letter to recommend Paul Hyman as a faculty presenter and, as related, his clinical knowledge regarding Brain Gym, how the brain functions, body-centered interventions, etc. Please contact me if you need additional information. I have also included a transcript of courses Mr.Hyman taught.

Regards,
Carol L. Kuprevich, Ed.D.
